JoJo Golden Spirit Beginner Guide

JoJo: Golden Spirit is a tactical auto-battler built around the JoJo cast from Parts 1–6. You build a team, position it on a grid, and your units fight automatically — your decisions happen in the team-building. It released worldwide (excluding Japan) on August 13, 2026, free-to-play on iOS and Android. Here are the confirmed systems and safest first steps while global-build details are still being checked against the live client.

What kind of game is this?

Golden Spirit is developed by KLab Games with Wanda Cinemas Games and is a fully licensed JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure title. Unlike an action game, you don’t control characters mid-fight: you collect units, place them on a multi-tile formation grid, and the battle resolves itself. That puts all the skill into three things — which units you build, how you combine their classes, and where you place them. The English version was revealed on May 8, 2026, and a Closed Beta Test ran May 15–29, 2026, which is where most of what we know about the systems below was confirmed.

The core loop

  • Collect characters and Stands across three rarities — R, SR and SSR — and place them on the formation grid.
  • Units auto-attack and unleash skills; real-time weather and positioning change how fights play out.
  • Duplicate pulls convert into fragments that raise a unit’s Star (1–5), boosting its stats — so no pull is ever fully wasted.

The roster you’ll be collecting

The closed beta ran with a 50-unit roster: 11 SSR, 28 SR and 11 R characters spanning all six Parts — from Jonathan Joestar and Tarkus to Giorno Giovanna, F.F. and Ermes Costello. On top of that, the protagonists Jotaro Kujo, Josuke Higashikata, Jolyne Cujoh and DIO are confirmed via the official site, though their rarities haven’t been listed yet. Browse every confirmed unit on the provisional tier list — each one links to a full character page.

RUSH mode — the signature mechanic

When three characters of different classes unleash their ultimate skills, the next unit enters RUSH mode — a +25% final damage bonus plus a small energy restore. This single rule shapes everything about team-building: a squad stacked with one class can never trigger it, so mixing fighting styles is rewarded by design. Building a team that chains different-class ultimates on purpose is the core tactic to learn first.

The one thing you actually tap

An auto-battler still has one manual input: when a character’s energy bar fills, that character’s portrait flashes, and tapping it fires their cinematic ultimate. That is the single active decision in a Golden Spirit fight — everything else, movement and basic attacks included, resolves on its own.

It matters more than “tap the glowing thing” sounds, because ultimates are what feed RUSH: the bonus needs three different-class ultimates to land. When you spend a full bar, and on which unit, is therefore the one lever you hold during combat. The two combat pillars

Golden Spirit balances Wit (ability counterplay — timing and countering enemy skills) and Combat (skill synergy — chaining your own units’ abilities). A strong team plays both rather than leaning on raw damage. The fighting styles guide breaks down the six classes and how the two pillars interact with them.

Your post-launch checklist

  1. Check the in-game mailbox and event notices. Six closed pre-registration campaign milestones were unlocked before release, but eligibility and delivery must be checked in the client. See the launch rewards page.
  2. Bank confirmed free currency instead of spending it the moment it arrives, so your opening summons happen in one strong block.
  3. Plan a light reroll with the reroll guide — one strong SSR carry or support is enough in a team-based game.
  4. Build a balanced formation across styles rather than stacking one type.
  5. Check the codes page before spending; as of the last review, no official universal code had been published.

What isn’t known yet

We only publish what’s confirmed, so be aware of the open questions: full gacha rate tables are unannounced (two banner examples from the China beta are on the pity page), no source assigns individual characters to the six fighting styles even though all six style effects are published, exact team size and the layout of the 11-panel board haven’t been detailed, and endgame modes are still under wraps. This guide is rewritten with live data only after it is independently checked — everything above is based on official store material and closed-beta documentation, not claimed launch-build playtesting.

FAQ

What should I verify in my first session? Verify the live team limit, each unit’s style label, the current banner disclosure and the cost shown before an upgrade.

Are CBT values current global values? No. A CBT value remains historical until the same rule is independently visible in the global client.

Does this guide claim hands-on testing? No. It separates official store claims and documented CBT systems from global-build facts that still need verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does combat work in JoJo: Golden Spirit?

It is a tactical auto-battler. You place characters and Stands on a multi-tile formation grid and they attack and use skills automatically, so your real decisions happen in team building and positioning. Real-time weather also shifts how a fight plays out.

What is RUSH mode and how do you trigger it?

When three characters of different classes unleash their ultimate skills, the next unit enters RUSH mode for a +25% final damage bonus plus a small energy restore. Chaining ultimates across different classes is exactly why a mixed team outperforms a stacked one.

What should you do first at launch?

Bank your free currency, plan a light reroll for one strong SSR, build a formation spread across fighting styles instead of stacking one, and redeem the launch codes. JoJo: Golden Spirit launched worldwide excluding Japan on August 13, 2026.

When does JoJo: Golden Spirit release and on which platforms?

It launched worldwide excluding Japan on August 13, 2026, free-to-play on iOS and Android. The game is developed by KLab Games with Wanda Cinemas Games as a fully licensed JoJo Bizarre Adventure title; the English version was revealed on May 8, 2026.

How many characters are in JoJo: Golden Spirit?

The May 2026 closed beta ran with a 50-unit roster — 11 SSR, 28 SR and 11 R — spanning all six Parts. Jotaro Kujo, Josuke Higashikata, Jolyne Cujoh and DIO are also confirmed via the official site, though their rarities are not listed yet, and the launch roster may grow beyond the beta 50.
