JoJo Golden Spirit: Spirit Realm System Explained
The Spirit Realm is Golden Spirit’s per-character equip system: each unit has up to 18 spirit-power slots, but can only have 3 active at once, unlocked at character Level 45. It’s a late-game system — you won’t touch it in your first sessions — and it’s easy to confuse with the 11-panel formation grid, which is about battlefield positioning, not equipment. This page covers only the Spirit Realm.
Unlock and the 3-of-18 slot rule
Spirit Realm opens once a character hits Level 45. From there, each character can hold up to 18 spirit powers, but only 3 can be equipped in battle at once — the other 15 slots exist as inventory/promotion fodder, not passive bonuses. That ratio matters for planning: hoarding spirit powers you’ll never equip on a given unit is lower-value than promoting the 3 you’ll actually run.
Promotion: slots, not levels
A spirit power is promoted by consuming another spirit power of the same tier and slot count, raising it from 3 slots up toward a 6-slot cap. The promotion path has two notable breakpoints:
- 3 → 5 slots can unlock new base attributes or talent slots.
- 5 → 6 slots upgrades one random talent slot.
Promoting past 3 slots is also the gate for the next system:
Talent tiers: Uncommon to Exalted
Once a spirit power reaches 3 slots, its talent slots can be mastered, and mastered talents can then be reshaped using spirit power shards — a reroll of a random talent attribute within the same rarity tier, not a free choice of any talent. Talents are divided into six tiers, from Uncommon up to Exalted. Because reshaping stays within the current tier, a low-tier spirit power’s ceiling is capped by its tier even after full talent investment — the tier itself has to improve, not just the talent inside it.
Realm Bonuses: only the strongest applies
Equipping enough spirit powers of a specific tier activates a Realm Bonus. Two rules govern how these stack:
- Higher-tier spirit powers do not count toward lower-tier requirements. A Legendary-tier spirit power doesn’t help you hit an Uncommon-tier bonus threshold — tiers don’t roll down.
- When multiple bonuses of the same type are active, only the strongest one takes effect. Realm Bonuses don’t stack additively with themselves; running redundant copies of the same bonus wastes slots that could diversify your bonus coverage instead.
Recycling: nothing is dead weight
Spirit powers you don’t need can be recycled into spirit power shards, which feed back into promoting, mastering, and reshaping the spirit powers you do want to keep. There’s no confirmed hard floor on what a low-tier spirit power converts to — treat recycling as a resource sink for your Realm investment rather than a meaningful income source on its own.
What this means for progression order
Because Spirit Realm only opens at character Level 45, it sits well after early investment decisions like which units to star up first. Don’t hold back general character leveling to “save resources” for a system your roster mostly can’t touch yet — by the time a unit reaches 45, you’ll have a much clearer read on which 3-of-18 slots are worth committing to.
