JoJo Golden Spirit: Arena & Ranked Match Guide
Golden Spirit runs two separate PvP systems, not one: Arena is an always-on asynchronous ladder with 2-week seasons, while Ranked Match is a recurring 7-day defense-then-offense cycle that only opens on Day 9 of a region. They use different tier structures and different rules for how often your lineup can change — mixing them up will cost you attempts.
Arena: asynchronous, ticket-based, 16 tiers
Arena is asynchronous PvP — you fight opponents’ saved lineups, not live players. You get 5 free Arena Tickets daily, with up to 5 more purchasable. Wins earn points that move you through 16 tiers, from Novice (1,000 points) up to Apex (2,500+). The first time you reach a new tier each season, you get a breakthrough reward; daily tier rewards pay out at 21:00, season rewards at season close.
Seasons last two weeks and end with a cross-server phase, matching you against players from other servers for boosted rewards before all ratings reset to Novice for the next season. Matches are decided by eliminating the opposing team within the time limit; if time runs out, the win goes first to whoever has more surviving units, then to total damage dealt, with a tie going to the defending team.
| Tier | Point range |
|---|---|
| Apex | 2,500+ |
| Master | 2,100–2,499 (5 sub-tiers) |
| Elite | 1,750–2,099 (4 sub-tiers) |
| Veteran | 1,350–1,749 (3 sub-tiers) |
| Apprentice | 1,100–1,349 (2 sub-tiers) |
| Novice | 1,000–1,099 |
Ranked Match: a 7-day defense/offense cycle
Ranked Match is a separate mode from Arena that first opens on Day 9 of a region. Each cycle runs 7 days and rolls immediately into the next one:
- Day 1 is a preparation phase — you can only adjust your defensive lineup.
- Days 2–7 are the challenge phase — both offense and defense can be changed.
You start each cycle with 2 free challenge attempts, recovering 2 more at 4:00 AM (UTC-4) daily during the challenge phase, up to the cap. Challenging a given opponent for the first time costs an attempt; rematching the same opponent doesn’t. Below Diamond tier, offense and defense share one lineup; Diamond and above run two separate lineups.
Points come from winning lineups and surviving units, capped at 15 points per opponent per day. At settlement, you land in one of four zones — Swift Promotion (+2 tiers), Promotion (+1 tier), Preservation (no change), or Relegation (−1 tier) — and each tier carries its own title (e.g. “Tough Combatant” for Gold). Daily tier rewards mail out at 4:00 AM during the challenge phase; season rewards send at cycle end. Tiers run Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum → Diamond → Emperor → Champion.
Which one should you prioritize?
Arena is available from the start and rewards a strong single lineup you can set and mostly forget between logins. Ranked Match doesn’t open until Day 9, demands active attention to both offense and defense (especially once you’re Diamond+ and running two separate lineups), and directly tests whether your team holds up on defense while you’re offline — a different skill than optimizing one attacking comp. Both draw on the same underlying damage and fighting style fundamentals, so neither requires a separate roster — just separate lineup planning.
